“Working to empower people to alleviate and reduce the causes and effects of poverty and homelessness created by our economy. “
The mission and purposes for this organization are to establish and maintain charitable and educational permanent clinic facilities and organization around and with volunteer students and professionals providing services, including, but not exclusively, medical, optometric, dental, and other health and social services, to homeless and low income people in Berkeley, Alameda County, CA, and other similar urban communities. The organization will be empowering through education and training the future, present, and past volunteers of the clinic in their current and future endeavors to empower disadvantaged people in the community and improving their health and wellbeing.
Possible activities, not comprehensively listed, which will lead toward the achievement of the objectives and purposes are:
Backing the provision of services and training are people, facilities, and funding. Activities and meetings provide community and alumni resources to the clinic and classroom. Meetings and organizing keep the communication active between students and alumni of the clinic.
The services rendered by the clinic are limited by university and community resources, imagination, and voluntary commitments to collaborate. As this is the case, we will be committed to facilitating goodwill amongst all partners and need to be educated and trained in theses organizational theories and skills.
The people in the homeless, low-income, and disadvantaged community and service provider organizations are included as our partners, teachers, and students and shall be welcomed as such.
Communication and planning with university staff and community members for uplifting the community through action. The community includes the spouses, children, and other close family of alumni, students, providers, partners, and clients. The community includes any interested student from the entire university community with the inclusiveness limited by facility, rules, and resources. The communication goal will be to cast the net as widely as practically possible.
Training activity is a cornerstone to this organization from the classroom to the clinics.
Facilitating career mentorship and career panels for students from alumni and other interested professionals for the inspiring community responsibility and activism.
Personal and community empowerment shall be encouraged and facilitated not only through action, but also through social and psychological skills training that build character, resilience, grit, empathy, perseverance, responsibility, endurance, effort, self-discipline, self-empowerment, and self-determination.
Fundraising and in-kind donation solicitation from alumni and other donors who are able to contribute back to the clinic and class. The idea of funding a permanent clinic may be achievable, but shall not be so paramount at any time as to put at risk the provision of services and training. Until the right time the clinic can continue with continued partnership with the community, especially the church partners.
Organizing periodic anniversary events which bring back alumni, volunteers, and donors to celebrate action and inspire activism throughout one’s lifetime.
Hiring employees who will work for the board of directors in achieving the stated goals. Managers and executives will be hired to help with the operations of the organization.
